The International Parliament of Education attends the VI International Congress “Levantando el Vuelo” organized by the Fundación de Mujer a Mujer and which took place on November 15 and 16, 2024.
Throughout the sessions, 9 speakers presented the success stories in Latin America that have produced results in favor of eradicating violence against women. Host Jaqueline Tineo, a renowned media leader who heads the Foundation, expressed her concern for improving the safety and well-being of women of all ages on the continent.
The President of The International Parliament of Education, Luis Ruiz, sent a message to the women present to confirm his concern that women raise the quality of life for them, since it has a direct impact on their families, which is why he recommends that Education is the means to expose best practices in favor of eradicating machismo and minimizing the rates of feminicide.
For her part, the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Houston, Leidy Rosario, had the opportunity to defend the role of women in the history of civilizations and emphatically expressed her support for women who seek to exercise power in Latin America.
Francisca Ixmata Guachiar, Founder of ASODI, argued in favor of the defense of Mayan women and the indigenous ethnic groups that still remain on the continent. Her work in “La casa del tejido de la Abuela” in Guatemala has exposed a successful case to recover traditions and exalt the entrepreneurship of Mayan women. Ixmata confirmed the importance of avoiding bullying between young women born in Western cultures and girls born in communities of indigenous peoples such as the Mayans.
Another of the cases presented was that of Evelyn Garrido, a speaker who promotes the use of protocol in international relations. The Puerto Rican Yaricel Muñiz, an expert in violin and musical instruments, narrated the successful case of the use of musical instruments to raise the self-esteem of young women who daily get involved and actively participate in their society through cultural participation with an audience that recognizes their talents. In turn, Mariana Rivera from Bolivia gave a spectacular presentation of her country's dances to show the way in which migrant families organize to make their cultures known to the American population in Texas.
One of the highlights of the event was when Evelyn Lara Caba, Founder of PACAM in the Dominican Republic, presented the case for educating violent men to try to lower their levels of anger against Latina women. Alicia Hernandez, who is a business strategist who suffered an accident in which members of her family died, explained how to be resilient in the face of crises in which women are sometimes left defenseless. The topics of female leadership were presented by the life coaches, Elizabeth Torres and Blanca Vargas, as well as Mily Goncalves.
The Executive Director of The International Parliament of Education, Adriana Hernandez de Lago, expressed interest in actively collaborating in this type of meetings that promote leadership, allow sharing important collaboration initiatives between women on the American continent and that promote the importance of educating in values to new generations.
